Sharjah is set to host a high-voltage T20I tri-nation series from August 29 to September 7, featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE.
In a strategic move to gear up for the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a tri-nation T20I series involving Afghanistan and UAE — now tentatively scheduled to begin on August 29 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, as per reliable sources.
The series is expected to feature seven matches, including the final on September 7, offering all three sides a perfect opportunity to fine-tune their combinations ahead of the Asia Cup. The tournament opener is likely to be played between Pakistan and Afghanistan, while UAE will face Pakistan the following day on August 30.
Originally, Pakistan was set to host a bilateral series against Afghanistan, but the decision to turn it into a tri-series in UAE reflects PCB’s desire to simulate Asia Cup–like conditions and match pressure.
Strategic Build-Up to Asia Cup 2025
The Asia Cup 2025 will kick off on September 9 in the UAE, with Pakistan, India, UAE, and Oman grouped together in Group A. Group B comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.
Pakistan’s first match will be against Oman on September 12, followed by a much-anticipated clash against India on September 14 — both fixtures are expected to draw massive global viewership.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s T20 form has seen noticeable improvement. After a solid series win against Zimbabwe and strong individual performances in global T20 leagues, the Tigers are looking more settled. A narrow series win over Pakistan earlier this year has also boosted their morale ahead of the continental showdown.
The tri-series is being seen as a critical litmus test for all participating teams before they lock horns in the more intense Asia Cup battles starting September 9.
