India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed his availability for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Dubai from September 9 to 28 in the T20 format.
According to a senior BCCI source, Bumrah recently informed the national selectors that he is fit and ready to feature in the tournament. The final squad is expected to be announced after the selection committee meeting in Mumbai on August 19, chaired by chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
Bumrah was earlier released from India’s Test squad for the fifth and final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, as the team management looked to carefully manage his workload. The fast bowler had already played three out of the four Tests on the England tour, bowling over 119 overs and taking two five-wicket hauls.
The shorter T20 format in the Asia Cup is expected to ease the strain on Bumrah’s workload, with the team management likely to rotate him if needed. Notably, the 31-year-old last played a T20I in India’s World Cup 2024 final victory over South Africa in Barbados, where he produced a match-winning spell of 2 for 18.
Meanwhile, the Indian team is expected to travel to the UAE a few days before the tournament to get accustomed to the conditions. Although a preparatory camp in Bengaluru was initially considered, the management decided that early travel would provide players with better practice opportunities in match-like conditions.
