India Likely to Pick Jaiswal, Gill, Sudharsan

As the cricketing world turns its attention to the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, a new report suggests that India could recall top-order talents Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Sai Sudharsan for the continental T20 tournament scheduled in the UAE from September 9 to 26.

According to a report from Press Trust of India (PTI), the three young batters are in strong contention for selection in India’s 17-member squad. All three were part of the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy — a five-match Test series between India and England — and are currently available following a month-long rest period.

BCCI Keeps Options Open Amid Busy Calendar

While India is also preparing for a Test series against the West Indies starting October 2, selectors are reportedly evaluating workload management and squad depth for the Asia Cup. A BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity:

“There is a five-week break and with no cricket around, these three should walk into any T20 squad despite the stupendous show by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma… selectors will weigh options carefully.”

Strong Recent Form Boosts Chances

The trio’s inclusion is supported by strong performances in recent months:

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill last featured in T20 Internationals in July 2024 against Sri Lanka.
  • Sai Sudharsan made his T20I debut in the same month against Zimbabwe and was among the standout performers in IPL 2025.

Sudharsan, in particular, made headlines by winning the Orange Cap, having scored 759 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 138.05, with 2 centuries and 14 half-centuries.

India’s Asia Cup 2025 Campaign

India is set to begin its Asia Cup journey on September 10 against UAE, followed by a high-octane clash against Pakistan on September 14 and a final group match versus Oman on September 19. All matches will be held in the UAE.

Squad Announcement Expected Soon

The official squad announcement is expected in the third week of August. Given the strategic importance of the Asia Cup as a lead-up to the T20 World Cup 2026, selectors are likely to prioritize balance and form.

Final Word

While the inclusion of Jaiswal, Gill, and Sudharsan is not yet confirmed, their form, rest period, and adaptability to UAE conditions make them strong contenders. The final call will rest with the BCCI Selection Committee, with workload and tournament scheduling key factors in the decision.

Stay tuned. We’ll update this article once the official squad is announced.
