India have received a timely boost ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 as vice-captain Shubman Gill and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah have cleared the mandatory fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE), Bengaluru. The confirmation comes just days before the continental event gets underway in Dubai on September 9.
Gill, who had to withdraw from the Duleep Trophy due to fever, was under close medical monitoring but has now been declared fit. The 25-year-old Punjab batter will travel to Dubai on September 9 to join the Indian squad, where he is set to open alongside Abhishek Sharma.
Bumrah Fit and Ready
For India, the availability of Jasprit Bumrah is equally significant. The senior pacer remains the backbone of India’s T20I bowling attack, especially with crunch matches against Pakistan (September 14) and Oman (September 19) lined up after the opening clash against UAE on September 10. Bumrah successfully completed the Yo-Yo test and a DXA scan, proving his endurance and readiness.
Rohit Sharma Also Clears Test
Adding to the good news, ODI skipper Rohit Sharma also passed the tests. While Rohit has retired from T20Is and Tests, he could feature in India A’s matches against Australia A in Kanpur later this year, followed by the senior ODI series in Australia in November. His presence at the fitness camp added weight to the buzz around the CoE tests.
Others Who Passed
According to PTI, other players who cleared the tests include Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both Jaiswal and Sundar are on the Asia Cup standby list, while Shardul will captain West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final.
