UAE announce 17-member squad

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have officially named their 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with Muhammad Waseem set to lead the side.

The major talking points are the inclusions of right-arm pacer Matiullah Khan and left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh, both coming in after featuring in the recent T20I tri-series against Pakistan and Afghanistan. The rest of the squad remains largely unchanged.

Matiullah, 32, brings pace and experience, having played one ODI and five T20Is, while Simranjeet, 35, strengthens the spin department with his international exposure in both ODIs and T20Is.

This will be UAE’s first Asia Cup appearance since 2016, when the tournament was held in Bangladesh in the T20 format. The eight-team event will be split into two groups, with UAE placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, and Oman. Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

The tournament kicks off on September 9 with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong in the opener. UAE will begin their campaign against India on September 10, followed by matches against Oman (Sept 15) and Pakistan (Sept 17).
