Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE are likely to play a tri-nation T20 series ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, with discussions reaching final stages, sources confirmed on Thursday.
The series is expected to be formally announced after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Dhaka. According to sources, key decisions will be made during side meetings at the ACC session, with the schedule and venues likely revealed soon after.
Pakistan was initially scheduled to host a bilateral series against Afghanistan in August. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed expanding it into a tri-series and relocating it to the UAE.
Officials say the aim is to give players match practice in UAE conditions, as the Asia Cup is also likely to be held there later this year.
The news comes as the ACC holds a landmark AGM in Dhaka, with 24 out of 25 member nations confirming attendance — a diplomatic win for ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
Despite earlier hesitation from India, Sri Lanka, and Oman over the meeting location, the ACC moved forward with the agenda. India’s Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is participating virtually, with Vice-President Rajeev Shukla attending the meeting online.
