Indian Stars May Miss Asia Cup 2025

India’s preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE is entering a crucial phase, but reports suggest that several senior players may miss the tournament due to injury concerns and workload management.

According to sources close to the BCCI, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested to manage his workload ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. While not confirmed, Bumrah’s absence could leave a significant gap in India’s bowling attack.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is reportedly set to make a comeback after an impressive IPL 2025 season, while Rishabh Pant remains doubtful due to ongoing injury concerns. Suryakumar Yadav, who is undergoing rehab, may not be fit in time — paving the way for Hardik Pandya to lead the side if needed.

Emerging fast bowler Harshit Rana is under serious consideration for a debut call-up. In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy are expected to form the core of the attack.

India’s batting lineup looks promising, with KL Rahul, Tilak Varma, and Sanju Samson likely to be included. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Sai Sudharsan — who all had stellar IPL campaigns — are also in contention.

  • Sai Sudharsan won the Orange Cap with 759 runs at a strike rate of 156.
  • Jaiswal scored 559 runs with a strike rate of 160.
  • Gill racked up 650 runs in 15 games at over 155 strike rate.

According to a BCCI official, selectors are weighing player workloads seriously, especially with a 17-member squad limit.

“Even if a team reaches the final, it’s only six matches in 21 days. That’s manageable, but we’re closely monitoring all fitness parameters,” the official told media.

Squad Announcement Expected in Mid-August

The official squad announcement for India is expected in the third week of August. The Asia Cup 2025, hosted by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), begins on September 9 in Sharjah, UAE.

India has been drawn into Group A, alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. Their marquee clash against Pakistan is scheduled for September 14, following Pakistan’s opener against Oman on September 12.

The tournament’s final will be played on September 28, after the Super Four stage determines the top two teams.
