In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly preparing to announce the Indian men’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup on Tuesday, August 19, through a press conference in Mumbai.
Earlier reports had suggested that the briefing would only be focused on unveiling the India Women’s squad for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. However, new updates indicate that chief selector Ajit Agarkar is expected to reveal the men’s squad as well, making it a crucial double announcement for Indian cricket.
Notably, Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta confirmed on X that the men’s team selection is indeed on BCCI’s agenda for the event. The timing of this announcement comes amid intense discussions over senior players’ inclusion. While names like Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami are reportedly not part of the selectors’ plans, pacer Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed his availability, ending speculation over his fitness.
However, concerns remain over whether unfavorable weather conditions in Mumbai could disrupt the BCCI’s press conference schedule. If all goes as planned, the selection committee will provide clarity on India’s strategy for the highly-anticipated continental tournament.
With the India vs Pakistan clash already generating massive buzz around the Asia Cup 2025, all eyes will now be on BCCI’s announcement to see which stars make the cut for the high-voltage event.
