New Delhi, May 19 – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially denied reports claiming that India has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.
Earlier today, several Indian media outlets reported that due to escalating tensions with Pakistan, India had opted out of participating in the Asia Cup 2025, which is expected to be hosted under Pakistan’s leadership.
However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has refuted these claims, stating that no formal decision has been made regarding India’s participation in Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events.
“We are aware of the reports circulating since morning claiming that India has pulled out of the Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup. No such decision has been taken so far,” Saikia clarified.
He added that the BCCI is currently focused on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and the upcoming series against England.
“There is no truth in these reports. At the moment, our full focus is on the IPL and preparations for the England series. Any decisions regarding ACC events will be made after official discussions and announced accordingly,” he said.
The response comes after an Indian newspaper published a report suggesting that India would not participate in both the men’s and women’s upcoming ACC tournaments, quoting an unnamed official.
The claims had sparked speculation about another potential cricketing standoff between India and Pakistan, especially after earlier reports suggested that India was reconsidering its ACC commitments due to the ACC being chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
As of now, the BCCI maintains that no final call has been taken, and any decision regarding India’s participation in the Asia Cup or any other ACC event will follow internal deliberations and official confirmation.
