The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that India will take part in the Asia Cup 2025, despite increasing pressure from Indian political leaders to boycott the tournament.
According to Indian media reports, the BCCI has made it clear that this decision was not taken suddenly. The board informed political figures that it followed nearly two months of internal discussions and planning.
Sources say the BCCI believes that skipping the Asia Cup could hurt India’s image in global sports and impact its chances of hosting future international events like the 2036 Olympics, the 2030 Commonwealth Games, and the 2032 Youth Olympics.
The board stated that while countries can choose not to play bilateral series, backing out of a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup would go against international sporting rules.

However, criticism continues in India. Member of Parliament Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed both the BCCI and the government, questioning why cricket ties with Pakistan are allowed when trade and diplomacy remain suspended. She even called for people to “name and shame” sponsors of the India vs Pakistan match.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20 format and is scheduled to begin on September 9 in the UAE. It will serve as key preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
India and Pakistan are in the same group, along with UAE and Oman. Their highly anticipated clash will be played on September 14.
