As the cricketing world gears up for yet another high-voltage India vs Pakistan showdown at the Asia Cup 2025, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has weighed in with strong words of advice for the green shirts.
Speaking on a local sports show, the Rawalpindi Express dissected India’s fearless approach and warned Pakistan to brace for an aggressive battle.
“It’s obvious the kind of cricket India will play—they’ll dominate you, hammer you down,” Akhtar remarked. “If the aim is to beat India, then Pakistan must bring their A-game forward. Winning has to be the only discussion.”
Misbah Sees Hope in a Solid Start
Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq also joined the conversation, stressing that Pakistan’s best chance lies in holding their nerve early.
“Pakistan has the opportunity,” Misbah said. “If they don’t lose wickets upfront and maintain momentum—even without Virat Kohli in India’s side—they can create pressure and turn it into a real contest.”
India’s Strength Lies Beyond the Openers
Akhtar, however, reminded fans and analysts not to underestimate India’s depth.
“This is one of the strongest middle orders India has ever had. Taking two wickets at the top won’t suddenly expose the lineup—players like Abhishek Sharma are just as dangerous,” he explained.
The Recipe for Pakistan: Bat Deep, Attack With Pace
The 50-year-old speedster laid out his blueprint for Pakistan’s strategy, urging them not to overcomplicate things.
“Score big—170 might not be enough, aim for 200. Then, try to win by 100 runs. Play three pacers, two spinners, and an all-rounder. Don’t overthink bowling plans—just stick with pace,” Akhtar advised.
He also suggested Faheem Ashraf for his power-hitting ability and recommended giving the new ball to Hasan Ali or pairing Wasim Jr. with Haris Rauf.
Both Teams Riding High
Both India and Pakistan head into Sunday’s clash with emphatic wins under their belt. India dismantled UAE for just 57 runs before chasing in 4.3 overs, while Pakistan crushed Oman by 93 runs after posting 160.
With India leading the head-to-head T20I record 10-3, and their last win coming in February’s Champions Trophy in Dubai, Pakistan will need something special to break the cycle.
