Bangladesh hit by injury scare as skipper Litton Das suffers back strain ahead of India clash

Litton Das injury scare before India clash

Bangladesh’s preparations for their high-voltage Super Four clash against India have been jolted by an untimely injury scare. Captain Litton Das, the side’s batting mainstay and wicketkeeper, picked up a back strain during a training session at the ICC Academy Ground on Monday evening.

The 30-year-old was batting in the nets when he attempted a square cut and felt discomfort on the left side of his waist. He immediately pulled out of the session and was attended to by the team’s physio, Bayzid ul Islam.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, while speaking to reporters, struck a cautious note:

“We will have a look at him today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call,” he said.

Although Litton did not appear to be in severe pain after the incident, his absence—even temporarily—would be a massive blow to the Tigers. To add to the uncertainty, Bangladesh have not named a vice-captain for the tournament, leaving questions over who would take charge if their skipper is sidelined.

Winning momentum at stake

Bangladesh head into the Super Four stage with confidence after a thrilling win over Sri Lanka in their opening match. Chasing 169, the Tigers got over the line in 19.5 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Saif Hassan (61 off 45) and Towhid Hridoy (58 off 37).

But facing India at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday is a far tougher challenge. Without Litton at the top, the batting order could lose both experience and stability. Players like Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, and Saif Hassan may have to step up if the skipper is ruled out.

Super Four fixtures heating up

The Asia Cup Super Four has already thrown up intriguing match-ups. Pakistan are set to take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, before Bangladesh return to Dubai to face Pakistan on Thursday. Sri Lanka will then round off their campaign against India on Friday.
