The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dhaka this week, with all 25 member countries participating in the event. The meeting concluded on Thursday on a positive and cooperative note, though a final decision on the Asia Cup 2025 is still pending.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi addressed the media after the meeting, thanking the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for hosting the event and appreciating the strong attendance and unity shown by all member nations.
“I would like to thank the BCB for their warm hospitality and all member countries for their active participation,” Naqvi said.
He emphasized the shared goal of developing cricket in Asia and stated that the two-day meeting was productive and peaceful.
“These two days were truly memorable. No one wants politics involved — the meeting was held in a very positive environment.”
Asia Cup 2025 Decision Awaited
When asked about the Asia Cup 2025, Naqvi confirmed that discussions are ongoing, especially with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He assured that a final decision would be made soon.
“A decision regarding the Asia Cup will be announced shortly,” Naqvi stated. “Talks with the Indian Cricket Board are ongoing, and we’re optimistic everything will be resolved in due course.”
There has been much speculation over the hosting rights of the 2025 edition, with Pakistan originally named as the host. However, tensions between cricket boards, particularly between Pakistan and India, have kept the matter unresolved.
Full Representation at the Meeting
Naqvi also responded to questions about the absence of some individuals from the meeting. He clarified that while some members could not attend in person due to scheduling conflicts, every member board was represented.
“Some people couldn’t make it to Dhaka — that happens. I myself missed a meeting in Singapore once. But the important thing is that all member boards were represented.”
Focus on Unity and Growth
The ACC President highlighted that the spirit of the meeting was focused on unity, collaboration, and the growth of cricket across the region.
“This is a team effort, and we will continue to hold such meetings in the future,” Naqvi said.
He added that additional discussions with the BCB on various topics are also ongoing, and more updates will follow soon.
“Please wait for the official announcement,” he concluded.
