Bangladesh got off to a disciplined start with Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowling a probing first over. Abhishek Sharma opened his account with a single, while Shubman Gill looked tentative against the movement and bounce, surviving a few nervy plays and misses.

It’s toss time, and the big news first up is that Jaker is captaining Bangladesh and not Litton Das. Suryakumar will do the coin-spinning. Heads is the call and heads it is. Bangladesh will bowl first. Jaker says that Litton injured himself during practice and is missing today, but he hopes to have him back soon. He is excited and looking forward to this match, he adds. As a team, they are doing well, he admits, and they are playing to their strengths. They want to give their best in this match, and want to restrict India to a good total before chasing it down. Four changes for Bangladesh – Taskin, Shoriful and Mahedi miss out, apart from Litton. Rishad comes in, as does Emon, along with two others, who Jaker cannot remember.

Chasing is the preferred option here, although this is a fresh strip. There is some grass on the surface again and Simon Doull mentions the ground staff is happy with the moisture content in the pitch. The reason the faster bowlers are matching the spinners at this venue, Ravi Shastri says, is because they have gotten the ball to swing and they have taken pace off. Enough grass on the pitch for the slower balls to not have as much of an effect, reckons Doull, and if you can put runs on the board, you might be doing okay.
