But a costly no-ball changed everything — Hasaranga punished the free hit with a towering six down the ground, bringing Sri Lanka right back on track. Shanaka then sealed the over in style with a boundary, lifting the pressure off completely. Hong Kong strike again! Charith Asalanka, after surviving a beauty earlier in the over, slashed one straight to short third where Ayush Shukla made no mistake. Ehsan Khan’s clever variations did the trick, putting Sri Lanka under real pressure at 122/5. Kamindu Mendis, though, responded positively — opening his account with a couple of boundaries-driven twos and a single, showing intent. With Shanaka at the other end and Hasaranga still waiting, Sri Lanka have the batting depth, but they now need 23 runs off 18 balls in what has turned into a thrilling contest.

Yasim Murtaza turns the game with a big wicket! Perera trapped lbw after a close DRS call.

Drama in Dubai! Kusal Perera, looking dangerous on 20, was struck on the back pad while sweeping, and a review confirmed Murtaza’s delight — umpire’s call on impact, ball hitting middle stump. Earlier in the over, Nissanka was run out, and suddenly Sri Lanka’s smooth chase hit turbulence. New captain Dasun Shanaka joined Asalanka, but both could only manage singles as Murtaza applied the brakes with smart variations. Sri Lanka now need 28 from 24 balls with 6 wickets in hand.

Ehsan Khan conceded 9 runs in the over, with Perera providing the big moment — a spectacular reverse-sweep six over deep third. He added a couple of singles alongside Nissanka, who also rotated strike. However, Hong Kong’s catching woes continued as they shelled yet another opportunity, their 11th drop of the tournament. Nissanka and Perera up the tempo as Hong Kong’s sloppy fielding proves costly.

Aizaz Khan’s over leaked 13 runs, with both Sri Lankan batters cashing in. Perera started the over by smacking one over the bowler’s head for four, before Nissanka struck two more boundaries — one clipped over fine leg and another dragged towards midwicket, where a sitter was put down. Pitch Report

Brand-new pitch with dryness and cracks at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium

This is a brand-new pitch, but there is a tinge of green and a bit of dryness as well. Arnold chimes in saying it is very dry with cracks throughout. The level of grass covering is decent, and he expects there to be tennis-ball bounce and for the strip to be two-paced. Arnold does not expect it to change very much across the 40 overs and with the possibility of it getting better to bat on later in the evening, the decision to field first makes sense. Starting strong will be crucial for Hong Kong and that could put a bit of pressure on Sri Lanka.
